old faithful

one of my favorite hymns has been "great is Thy faithfulness". you can find it in almost every church hymnal. it speaks, so eloquently, of the Lord's great love and mercy. thomas o. chisholm, the author of this beautiful hymn written in 1923, used lamentations 3:22 & 23 as one of the significant scripture references for his text. i still weep like a baby every time i hear it or sing it. why? because i am so thankful that God is faithful in loving me and taking care of me. like no other earthly father, my Heavenly Father cares for my every need and showers me with mercy every day.

because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. lamentations 3:22, 23

this scripture passage speaks of hope and unfailing compassion. it also speaks of God's incredibly great love for us. His love, a love that transcends all understanding and comprehension, shows His loyalty and devotion to us. wouldn't you think that God wants our loyalty in return? do we believe that a great love like His needs to be reciprocated? i sure do! sometimes we lack in that department. we fail to tell Him "i love you" enough. we fall short when we do wrong things that dishonor Him. but friends, there is Hope!

every waking moment brings new breath and a renewal of God's mercy and kindness. it's a brand new day full of God's Grace and great love. God's faithfulness is like a fountain that never dries up. its water is never re-circulated. His living water is fresh and new every time you are thirsty. so, how can we partake of this living water? we are able to do this by loving and accepting His Son, Jesus Christ, our Saviour. Jesus himself said "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. no one comes to the Father (God) except through Me." (john 14:6) it was Jesus who sacrificed Himself for sinners like you and me to make us whole again; to wash us clean. He's the One who made it possible for us to have an extraordinary life here on earth, as well as offering us the Hope of Eternal Life with our Father in Heaven.

of course this doesn't mean our lives are going to be perfect. we're going to face troubles and hardships and endure some scrapes and bruises. but, by nurturing a relationship with Jesus Christ and turning our minds toward God, we can get through the coming days holding on to that Hope.

great is God's faithfulness! how great is ours?

rejoicing in my new morning,

tamara
