calm after the storm

what is that eerie silence and stillness that comes over the earth right before a storm hits? it's weird enough to send a shiver up your spine and put a lump in your throat. it steals your breath and causes your heart to race. oddly, the calm before the storm, one of the strangest phenomena in nature, is not very calming at all. yet there is a calm that brings peace beyond all understanding—the calm after the storm.

how many times do we find ourselves in an unfavorable position, seemingly, with no hope in sight? how often do we submit to fear and worry? what are our concerns today as we read this mediation? are we wrestling with something in our lives? life as we know it isn't as rosy as we'd like it to be. even Christians have to face many hardships. we all have serious struggles and tangible pain we must endure. and too often we feel we must go it alone. but this is far from the truth.

God wants us to come to Him quickly when the situations arise. He wants to be our comfort in our time of need. so, why don't we turn to Him? usually we become too overwhelmed with the situation to cry out for help. we lose our focus and we make our problem bigger than God Himself. but His Word instructs us otherwise. He wants us to look to Him in everything and in every situation.

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. philippians 4:6,7

our calm will come the sooner we turn to our Father. the peace that He brings to our life experiences is unfathomable and inconceivable! He brings peace to our hearts and breath into our lungs. His loving intercession provides us with the strength, hope and courage we will need to fight whatever we are facing.
