true reflection water is a wonderful creation of God and one of earth's most precious natural resources. it is very unique yet found almost everywhere. water is an essential part of our lives and makes up about 70% of our bodies. we are soothed and relaxed by the sound it makes, and on those very hot days it refreshes us. when harnessed, it becomes a viable source of energy. water tells stories through its conversations of flows, levels and tides. however, the most interesting story water tells, is the one about the person whom it reflects. when one looks down onto the surface of water, they are able to see themselves. i still find this common occurrence so amazing. it doesn't matter which body of water i look upon. it can even be a glass of water. there it is…my reflection! as water
reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man. the scripture verse above speaks that as clear water gives a reflection of the face, so the heart reflects the true nature of a man. the most important ingredient needed to cast this accurate reflection is a sufficient amount of light. when there is light there is a reflection. that source of light helps us to see ourselves clearly in a way God would see us. it brings to the surface all that is good and not so good in our lives. this self-awareness begins when we allow the Light of Christ to examine our hearts. this is inventory! however, at times, our reflections can be made imprecise by certain conditions. for instance, if the water source is unclean or clouded by our concerns and pride, we are unable to see the true reflection of ourselves. debris can also cause difficulties in seeing our reflection. if a stone is cast into the water, its ripples create a distorted view. these circumstances can cause inaccurate portrayals of our reflection. we are not seeing ourselves as God sees us. we are closed off to the negatives and in some cases, we miss out on our positives. this is unfortunate! but there is hope, my friends! God sees our true reflection. He sees it all and slowly reveals it to us. He is not concerned with our failures or our successes. He is only concerned with what is in our hearts. while circumstances might cloud our reflection, as well as how others may see us, God will always see our hearts. what will he find in your heart? with my heart's door creaking open, tamara |
