The Pursuit of Truth — What Is It and How Do We Find It?

Updated: May 31

In a world filled with opinions, half-truths, and constantly shifting narratives, the concept of truth can feel elusive. Yet, it remains one of the most vital pursuits of the human soul. We long to know what is real, what is right, and what can be trusted. But what exactly is truth, and how do we find it?

What Is Truth?

At its simplest, truth is that which aligns with reality—what is factual, accurate, and consistent. The dictionary defines truth as "the quality or state of being true" or "that which is in accordance with fact or reality." It's something that is constant, not based on opinion or changing feelings. Truth does not shift with the trends or moods of society. It stands firm, even when challenged.

Through the lens of the Bible, truth goes deeper. Yahushua said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (John 14:6). This statement is profound—it doesn’t just say that Yahushua teaches truth, but that He is Truth.

Why Does Truth Matter?

Truth matters because it’s the foundation of trust, justice, and freedom. Without truth, relationships crumble, justice is corrupted, and people remain in bondage—spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. Scripture teaches that “you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free” (John 8:32). Freedom is found not in doing whatever we want, but in aligning ourselves with the truth of YHWH.

How Do We Find Truth?

Finding truth isn’t always easy, but it’s not impossible. Here are a few ways to begin the journey:

  1. Seek the Word of YHWH

The Bible is described as the "Word of Truth" (2 Timothy 2:15). It reveals our Elohim character, His design for humanity, and His plan for salvation. By studying Scripture, we gain insight into what is true and what is false.

  2. Look to Yahushua

If Yahushua is Truth, then knowing Him is central to finding truth. This involves prayer, reading His teachings, and walking in relationship with Him.

  3. Discern Through the Holy Spirit

Yahushua promised that the Holy Spirit would guide us into all Truth (John 16:13). And we know that the Holy Spirit is YHWH Character and Power. With having the Father in us, we become more spiritually mature. Spiritual discernment is a key part of understanding what is right and good in a confusing world.

  4. Practice Humility and Openness

Sometimes, we must unlearn falsehoods and be willing to face uncomfortable realities. Seeking truth requires a humble heart and a willingness to be corrected.

  5. Test Everything

Not all that claims to be truth actually is. The Bible encourages us to “test all things; hold fast what is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21). Critical thinking, wise counsel, and spiritual maturity help us navigate conflicting messages.

In Conclusion

Truth is not just a concept to be debated—it’s a foundation to build our lives upon. In a world full of noise, finding the truth requires intentional seeking, a heart open to YHWH, and a willingness to align ourselves with His reality.

In Matthew 13:9–15, Yahushua is asked, “Why do You speak to them in parables?” He then explains the reason behind His use of parables. His response reveals a deeper truth: many people remain at a surface level in their pursuit of understanding, relationship, and purpose with our Father. Even while His Son walked the earth, there were still those who did not believe. This shows that true understanding requires more than just hearing—it requires a sincere and open heart. Our Father is not seeking those who claim to love Him with impure motives, but those whose intentions are genuine and pure, as affirmed in Matthew 5:8: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see Elohim.”

The journey may not always be easy, but the reward is greater than you could ever imagine.

Let’s be people who seek the truth, live the truth, and share the truth—with love, grace, humility and conviction.
